myPod.

Own your media. Hold it in one hand.

Before you begin

Own your media.

The songs and films on myPod are yours. Ripped from the CDs and DVDs on your shelf, bought straight from the artists and studios you love, kept on your own server at the quality you chose.

Your library. Your server. Your click wheel.

Chapter 1

Getting Started

Put myPod on your Home Screen, sign in to your own Plex server, and your collection is in your pocket.

Add myPod to your Home Screen

  1. Open myPod’s web address in Safari on your iPhone.
  2. Tap the Share button, then Add to Home Screen.
  3. Open myPod from its new icon. It runs full screen, just like an app.

Sign in to Plex

  1. Go to Settings › Plex › Sign In with Plex.
  2. Tap Open Plex sign-in and sign in on the Plex page.
  3. Come back to myPod. It finds your server on its own.
Just looking? Until you sign in, myPod plays a small demo library with no sound, so you can try everything first.

Chapter 2

The Click Wheel

Drag your thumb around the wheel to scroll. Press a part of it to act.

MENU Go back Previousor restart Next Play / Pause Select Turn to scroll
Clockwise moves down a list. Counterclockwise moves up.

Or just touch the screen

Choose
Tap any item.
Scroll
Drag the list up or down.
Go back
Tap the title bar. Look for the blue ‹.
Fast scrolling. Spin quickly through a long list and a big letter appears so you know where you are. “The Beatles” shows under B.

Chapter 3

Press the center button to change what the wheel does. A small pop-up at the bottom of the screen shows where you are.

Turn the wheel to move through the song.

Turn the wheel or tap a star to give the song 1 to 5 stars. Turn all the way down to clear it. The stars then show under the album name.
Shuffle
Off, or Songs. Starts with the song you picked, then mixes the rest.
Repeat
Off, Track (this song again), or Album (the whole list again).

You can also tap a dot in the pop-up, or a choice right on the screen. After a few seconds myPod goes back to Normal on its own.

Volume lives on your iPhone’s side buttons.

Ratings and rated playlists

Music › Ratings turns your stars into playlists that update themselves: My Top Rated (4 and 5 stars), one list for each star count, and Recently Rated. Each list starts with Shuffle, and they play on Plexamp too.

Your ratings are yours alone. They live on this myPod, not in Plex, so nobody else on your server sees them.

Keep a backup. The home-screen app and Safari keep separate ratings, and deleting the app erases them. Go to Settings › Ratings Backup › Back Up Ratings and save the file to Files. Restore from Backup brings them back on any phone.

Chapter 5

Cover Flow

Turn your iPhone sideways and your albums fill the screen.

  1. Swipe left or right to flip through albums. Flick to fly.
  2. Tap the middle album to turn it over and see its songs.
  3. Tap a song to play it. Turn the phone upright, or tap Done, to go back.
Nothing happens when you turn? Swipe down from the top-right corner and turn off Portrait Orientation Lock. You can also open Cover Flow from Music › Cover Flow.

Chapter 6

Videos

Your movies and TV shows, just like the iPod with video.

  1. Choose Videos on the main menu, then Movies, TV Shows, or Continue Watching.
  2. Pick something. It starts playing right on the iPod screen.
  3. Turn your iPhone sideways to watch full screen. Tap the video to show the controls.
Play / Pause
▶❙❙ or the center button.
Title & time
The video fills the screen. Tap the picture to show the title bar and how far along you are. They tuck away after a few seconds.

Turn the wheel to move 10 seconds. ⏮ ⏭ jump 30.

MENU, or Done when you’re watching sideways.
Picks up where you left off. myPod tells Plex how far you got, so your other Plex apps know too. Files your iPhone can’t play directly are converted by your Plex server on the fly.

Chapter 7

Play On Another Speaker

Use myPod as a remote for Plexamp anywhere in the house.

  1. Make sure Plexamp is open on the other device.
  2. Go to Play On and choose it. A checkmark shows your pick.
  3. Everything you play now plays there. Choose This myPod to play on your phone again.

AirPlay and Bluetooth

Choose Play On › AirPlay & Bluetooth and your iPhone’s own speaker list pops up: HomePods, Apple TVs, AirPlay speakers, Bluetooth headphones and car stereos. Pick one and myPod keeps playing there. It works for videos too.

Plexamp or AirPlay? Plexamp sends the music from your server straight to that device, so your phone is only the remote. AirPlay and Bluetooth stream from your phone, so keep myPod open nearby.

Chapter 8

Extras

Games

Choose Extras › Games. There are four, and myPod remembers your best score in each.

Brick. The classic. Turn the wheel or drag on the screen to move the paddle. Press the center to launch the ball.

Music Quiz. myPod plays a few seconds from a random song in your library. Pick its name from four choices. The faster you answer, the more points you get. Ten songs a round. It plays on your phone, so it needs your Plex library, not the demo.

Stack. Falling blocks. Turn the wheel or drag sideways to move the block. Press the center or tap the screen to turn it. Press ⏭ or swipe down to drop it. Press ⏯ to pause.

Minesweeper. Open every square that isn’t a mine. A number tells you how many mines touch that square. Tap to open, press and hold to plant a flag. Prefer the wheel? Turn it to move the box, use ⏮ and ⏭ to jump a row, press the center to open, and ⏯ to flag.

While you play Stack or Minesweeper, the ⏮ ⏭ ⏯ buttons control the game instead of the music. Press Menu to leave, and they work on music again.

Flip it over

Swipe sideways on the empty part of the case, like the space around the wheel, and myPod turns over to show its polished steel back, a few stickers, and an engraving. Swipe again to flip it back. The music keeps playing.

Sleep Timer

Choose 15, 30, 45, or 60 minutes, or End of Song. A small moon appears in the top bar while it’s set.

Falling asleep to Plexamp in another room? The timer works most reliably when music is playing on your phone itself.

Chapter 9

Settings

Case

Fourteen finishes, including a Zune-style brown with a rounded-square pad the BC Edition (a clear amber-to-red shell, black wheel, red center and a polished red back), and the JL Edition, a beige 1995 desktop PC in your hand. Scroll the list to preview each one on your myPod, press the center to keep it.

Screen

Light is the 5th-generation look. Dark flips the screen to white text on black, easier on the eyes at night. Match iPhone follows your phone’s own Light or Dark setting. Classic brings back the original black-and-white display.

Light, Dark, and Classic.
Server
Switch between Plex servers. Each one remembers its music library.
Corner
What shows in the top-right corner of the screen: the time, a little equalizer that dances while music plays, both (the clock that turns into the equalizer while music plays), the phone or Plexamp player the music is going to, or nothing.
Wheel Color
Give the click wheel its own color, or leave it on Match Case. Scroll the list to preview.
Center Color
Same idea for the center button. Mix and match: a red wheel with a white center on a black case, say.
Menu Art
Album art drifting beside the main and Music menus, like the iPod Classic. On from the start.
Large Text
Bigger, easier-to-read menus. On from the start.
Clicker
The little tick you hear as you scroll.
How to Use
A short version of this guide, right on your myPod.

Tips and Troubleshooting

Can’t reach Plex
Make sure your server is on and Remote Access is turned on in Plex. Then try Settings › Plex › Reconnect.
Song won’t play
myPod tries a second, converted stream automatically. If it still won’t play, the file may be damaged on your server.
Plexamp ignores myPod
Open Plexamp on that device, then pick it again in Play On.
Icon looks old
Delete myPod from your Home Screen and add it again from Safari. Your sign-in and settings stay.
Start fresh
Settings › Plex › Sign Out, then sign in again.
